The terms that come up when specifying a machine display. Short definitions, and a link to the page that goes deeper.

Bus & protocols

CAN bus

A two-wire serial bus designed for vehicles. Robust against electrical noise and short circuits, which is why it is used on machines rather than Ethernet. Our terminals carry two independent CAN 2.0B channels.

CAN 2.0B

The version of CAN with 29-bit identifiers, allowing far more distinct messages than the 11-bit CAN 2.0A. Standard on mobile machinery. Speeds from 20 kbit/s to 1 Mbit/s; 250 kbit/s and 500 kbit/s are the common machine values.

SAE J1939

A higher-layer protocol on top of CAN, standardised for heavy-duty vehicles. It defines how engine speed, coolant temperature or hydraulic pressure are named and scaled, so a display can read them without a custom protocol. Parameters are identified by SPN and grouped into PGNs.

SPN / PGN

J1939 addressing. An SPN (Suspect Parameter Number) names a single value, such as engine speed. A PGN (Parameter Group Number) is the message that carries it, usually together with related values, and states how often it is sent.

DM1 / DM2

The J1939 diagnostic messages. DM1 reports currently active trouble codes together with the fault lamp status; DM2 reports codes that were active previously. A display that reads DM1 can show the operator what is wrong without a laptop.

CANopen

Another higher-layer protocol on CAN, common in industrial and municipal equipment. Devices are described by an object dictionary supplied as an EDS file, and exchange data through PDOs and SDOs.

ISOBUS / ISO 11783

The agricultural implementation of J1939, standardised so that any implement works with any tractor terminal. A Universal Terminal (UT) is the display side. Compliance is verified by AEF conformance testing. We do not have it certified yet.

Universal Terminal (UT)

The ISOBUS component that lets an implement draw its own screen on the tractor display. The implement sends an object pool; the terminal renders it. This is why an ISOBUS display is not merely a display — it hosts other manufacturers’ interfaces.

Display & video

AHD

Analog High Definition — a camera interface that carries 720p or 1080p video over ordinary coaxial cable. Chosen on machines because the cable is cheap, tolerates long runs and survives vibration, unlike HDMI.

Capacitive touch (PCAP)

Touch that senses the electrical property of a finger, giving a clear glass surface and multi-touch. Responds to bare skin, not to a thick glove — which is why machines with gloves in play also need physical keys.

Optical bonding

Filling the gap between the LCD and the cover glass with transparent adhesive instead of air. Removes internal reflection, so the display stays readable in sunlight, and stops condensation forming inside.

cd/m² (nit)

A measure of screen brightness. An office monitor sits around 250; a display that must be read in direct sunlight on an open machine needs 800 to 1000 or more.

Rotary encoder

A knob that reports rotation direction and steps rather than a position. Useful on machines because it can be turned with a glove and gives detents you can feel without looking away from the work.

IP rating

Ingress Protection, defined by IEC 60529. The first digit is dust (6 = dust-tight), the second is water (5 = jets, 7 = temporary immersion). IP65 is our standard; IP67 is available on some models.

Load dump

A voltage spike of up to several hundred volts that occurs when a heavy load disconnects while the alternator is charging. A terminal on a 12 or 24 V machine must survive it. Covered by ISO 7637-2 pulse 5, and the reason our supply input accepts 9 to 36 V rather than exactly 24.

Wide-range input

A power supply that tolerates a broad voltage range, here 9 to 36 V DC, so the same terminal works on a 12 V and a 24 V machine and keeps running during cranking and load dump.

GB/T

Chinese national recommended standards. Each one we cite is a national adoption of an IEC or ISO parent with identical test methods, so a report can be re-issued against the international reference.

Declaration of Conformity (DoC)

The document in which the manufacturer itself declares that a product meets the applicable EU directives, and takes legal responsibility for it. Signed by us, not issued by a test house — which is why a DoC can be produced instantly and a certificate cannot.

Authorised representative (EU)

An entity established in the EU that a non-EU manufacturer appoints to handle market-surveillance and recycling obligations. Required before certain products may legally be placed on the German market — a manufacturer outside the EU cannot register directly.
